Ewes Now Available for Sale

We are pleased to announce that ewes are now available for sale on the LANDRANI® Meatmasters app! You can now browse and purchase ewes directly from the app, making it easier than ever to enhance your flock with high-quality animals.

Please ensure you download the latest version of the LANDRANI® Meatmasters app from your relevant app store to take full advantage of our new features and access the ewes available for sale.

In addition to the availability of ewes, we have integrated some exciting new features into the app to help you make informed decisions:

LANDRANI® Production Index (LPI) Navigator: Easily navigate through data on ewes, their dams and sires, and their offspring’s performance. All this information is directly linked to our IntelliFarm™ sheep management system.

AI-Driven Genetic Summary: AI technology helps provide a comprehensive genetic summary of each ewe, including performance data and potential. If the ewe is registered with SA Studbook, we also provide the official Studbook data.

LPI and LMI-Based Pricing: The app uses AI to calculate ewe prices based on the LPI score, which ensures you’re getting animals that meet our strict breeding standards.

At LANDRANI®, we only offer ewes that meet our breeding criteria—meaning the ewes either have an LPI or LMI above the Meatmaster breed average as defined by SA Studbook. Here’s a breakdown of the LANDRANI® Production Index (LPI) calculation:

100-day Wean Weight: We measure each ewe’s average 100-day wean weight against the Studbook’s average for the breed:
- Single lambs: 29.7 kg
- Twin lambs: 25.1 kg, with an adjusted target of 34.72 kg for twin lambs
Inter Lamb Period (ILP): We compare the ewe’s average ILP against the Studbook’s standard of 316 days.

The LPI score is based on these two key metrics. An LPI of 100 represents the Studbook average, and ewes surpassing this benchmark receive an LPI above 100. This method provides a clear measure of production efficiency for our flock.

In addition, we consider the Logix Merit Index (LMI) as another measure of genetic potential, with the current LMI for the Meatmaster breed being 96, as defined by SA Studbook. Only ewes meeting the following criteria are included in our breeding program:

LPI ≥ 100
Dam LPI ≥ 100
LMI ≥ 96
Dam LMI ≥ 96

This ensures that we only breed with animals showing exceptional production efficiency and genetic merit.

For first-born lambs weighing less than 25 kg, we adjust their LPI by 20%, which accounts for the slight variation in weaning weights that often occurs when ewes are mated as lambs themselves.

Delivery

We are happy to offer delivery options for ewes throughout the Western Cape, with holding stations in Richmond and Cradock for the Eastern and Northern Cape. We’ve also partnered with RA Vervoer to provide transportation to Gauteng from these locations.
